lceste fut au départ envisagé comme une collaboration entre plusieurs personnes incluant Haendel et son librettiste Tobias Smollett, mais la production scénique fut abandonnée dès les premières répétitions pour des raisons inconnues. Haendel a réutilisé de nombreuses pages de cette oeuvre dans des compositions ultérieures. L'Early Opera Company dirigée par Christian Cumyn a déjà enregistré de nombreux opéras de Haendel comme Semele et Flavio, et s'adjoint sur cet album les talents de Lucy Crowe, Benjamin Hulett et Andrew Foster-Williams.
